Event | Dogtown Writers Festival: Finding Words in Place

Sandy will be the Joseph Garland Keynote Address featured speaker at the Dogtown Writers Festival, which is hosted by the Gloucester Writers Center. Sandy will also host a workshop on using narrative as the solution to incorporate real stories from hard and difficult places, whether writing fiction or nonfiction. Event | Music of West Africa & Palestine

Sandy’s book, Children of the Stone, followed the dream of Palestinian musician Ramzi Aburedwan to build a music school in the occupied West Bank. Four years after the book’s release, Ramzi is coming back to California with his French-Arabic Dalouna Ensemble for two California concerts. Their second concert will be in Los Angeles on September 15 at Zebulon. Sandy will introduce Ramzi and do a reading from the book. Click here to learn more about the event.

Sandy will be the keynote speaker of Rebuilding Alliance’s Gala Awards and Benefit Dinner on January 26, which celebrates advocates and storytellers. Rebuilding Alliance is an organization dedicated to advancing equal rights for the Palestinian people through education, advocacy, and other means of support. Event | The border and the American imagination
Sandy will lead a conversation at USC Annenberg on January 22 with journalist and Hearst fellow, Michelle García. For more than 10 years, Michelle García has investigated the intersection of national identity, race and of the U.S.-Mexico border. In her presentation, García shares insights and experiences from reporting on the construction of the border wall, the violence in Mexico, and the most recent crisis on the border, real and imagined.
